BHC OFFERS HOCKEY FOR ALL

Were you inspired by the Olympics and keen to get back involved in or take up a new sport? Did you watch the GB Ladies Hockey team win Gold or Ireland Men’s Hockey playing Olympic Hockey for the first time since 1908? Then why not try hockey at Banbridge Hockey Club? Banbridge Hockey Club is one of the premier clubs in Ireland with fantastic facilities, coaching and playing opportunities for men and women, boys and girls of all abilities.

Hockey is a high-energy sport that improves players’ pace, agility and lower body strength. As it requires constant movement, is has been calculated that players can burn around 560 calories per game therefore is a great way of keeping fit and healthy in a team sport environment. Banbridge Hockey Club offers coaching, training, matches and social events for all age groups and is a great place for players to start or develop their hockey career to meet new friends and keep fit and healthy.

Currently BHC has a number of players representing both Ulster and Ireland from Under 16 through to senior international, with our Men’s 1st Captain Eugene Magee playing at the Rio Olympics for Ireland, showing the high standard of hockey that is available at the club. However the club welcomes players of all abilities and, with the vast array of coaching and playing opportunities can facilitate all standards of hockey from 4years old to veterans!

BHC ladies’ training takes place at Havelock Park on Monday nights 7.00-8.30pm and is open to all ladies of any ability aged 15 and over interested in playing hockey. The men’s 1st XI have dedicated sessions while the men’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI teams train on Tuesday nights 6.30pm-7.30pm starting from this week and this is also open to all aged 15 and above.  New members are always very welcome.

The Club boasts a large and successful Junior Club.  The boys and girls train in Primary School, under 13 and 15 groups with matches and tournaments organised throughout the season, details of these training sessions are outlined on the club website. Once players reach 15 years old they become eligible to play for their respective men’s and ladies section with weekly training and matches available in variety of cup & league competitions.  The boys and girls sessions take place throughout the week depending on the age group and start again week commencing 5th September. If you were unable to attend the Junior Registration event, email the club and we will get the necessary membership forms to you.

So if you want to take up a new sport, improve your standard of hockey, or simply keep fit and have fun in a team environment then come along to the relevant training session at Banbridge Hockey Club or if your child is the next Olympic hockey star, then ensure you get them signed up for the Junior Section.
