Summer Social Hockey starting at Havelock

“SUMMER SOCIAL HOCKEY” STARTS WEDNESDAY 27TH MAY

That’s right, the eagerly anticipated “Summer Social Hockey” will start at Banbridge Hockey Club on Wednesday 27th May 2015. SSH15 will run from 7:30pm to 9:00pm and continue every Wednesday night.

What is “Summer Social Hockey”?

SSH15 is a fun way to keep fit over the summer months. Each week all shapes, sizes and abilities of hockey players participate in small sided games with the teams picked at random. There are no scores kept so every match is just for fun. It is the perfect opportunity for beginners of the game to fine tune their skills under non-competitive conditions or for the more “experienced” players to meet up with old friends for a nights craic. So hopefully we will see participants with no hockey experience playing alongside those with a bit of experience, including a few Irish Internationals! The fee for all attending will be £1 payable on the night.

Food and refreshments will be provided pitchside.

What are the “rules”?

Match Format

Each SSH15 session will involve a series of matches played on ¼ of a pitch. Teams will be around 6-a-side depending on numbers there each night. Matches will be around 10-15 minutes long with every team getting a chance to play each other on the night.

Teams

Teams will be randomly selected at the beginning of every SSH15 session. All players will just put their sticks into a bin and the teams will be randomly selected.

Goalkeepers

Goalkeepers are always welcome to come along. But SSH15 is also a great opportunity for people to experience life in the pads. So if you want a go between the posts come along early and pad up!

Scoring areas

Instead of a circle we will operate an 18yrd scoring area defined by a number of markers on the pitch.

Long corners

There will be no long corners! 3 long corners will equal a penalty corner.

Penalty Corners

There are no penalty corners! When a penalty corner is awarded, it becomes a 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Using the 18 metre line defining the scoring area, the player will go 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper until the ball is in the goal or outside the scoring area. No other player (s) can enter the scoring area or touch the ball until the penalty corner is over. (Similar to EHL 8 second shuttle… just with no time limit.)

Penalty Strokes

The penalty stroke is 8 metres from goal and uses the same rules as field hockey.

Other points to note

It is recommended that all players wear appropriate clothing, gum-shields and shin-guards to SSH15.

In the interests of safety, hitting of the ball will not be allowed at SSH15.

So put the sticks in the bin and lets begin!
