Umpire Development Roadshow at BHC

CLUB UMPIRE DEVELOPMENT ROADSHOW – FURTHER INFORMATION & FORMAT
The Ulster Umpires Association are keen to support and develop club umpires throughout the province and have put together a Development Roadshow to take to a number of locations between January 2012 and March 2012. The purpose of these Roadshows is to offer support and guidance to all club umpires, no matter at what level, in order to assist develop their umpiring skills, improve confidence, attain consistency in decision making and on the interpretation of the rules of hockey.
We will encourage club umpires to develop their individual skills and consider joining the umpire panel where they will have the opportunity to gain their Grade 3, Grade 2 and Grade 1 Awards.
Any club(s) wishing to host the Umpires Development Roadshow should notify P.J.Whyte by e mail stating venue, month and preferred date(s) to host the roadshow. The following criteria will apply to any club requesting the roadshow:-
1/ Minimum numbers will be 12 for each roadshow.
2/ A cost of £5 per head will be charged for each person attending.
3/ Where possible, other clubs in the locality should be invited to attend the roadshow.
4/ Umpiring areas of difficulty should be identified by E mail prior to the roadshow for inclusion in discussion on that night.
5/ The duration time of each roadshow will be approximately 2 hours (7pm – 9pm).
The format for each Development Roadshow will be as follows:-
1/ Introduction
2/ Umpires Equipment/Pre-match Preparation
3/ Areas of control/Positioning (followed by Q & A)
4/ Communication/Decision Making (followed by Q & A)
5/ Control Measures/Match Management (followed by Q & A)
6/ Areas of Difficulty (self pass, 5 metres at free hits, obstruction, etc)
7/ Final Q & A and finish.
