Bann through to Semi-Finals in Irish Senior Cup
Banbridge Hockey Club had much to celebrate this weekend with the men’s 1st XI beating the current Irish Senior Cup holders, Cork Harlequins in their own backyard to take them through to the semi-finals of this competition. Simon Magowan and Stephen Dowds scored for Bann against the Cork side to book a place in the finals weekend to be held in March. Banbridge remain the only Ulster team left in the competition after Kilkeel fell to Three Rock Rovers.
In league action, the men’s 2s remain top of the Junior 1 league after a 4-3 win at home over Lisnagarvey 3s while the men’s 3s shared the points with Instonians with each side scoring 3. The men’s 4s saw off Ballynahinch with Gareth Matthews getting a hatrick and Gary Dean putting away the other goal.
Away against Priorians, the ladies 1st XI returned to winning ways putting two past the Derry side while the ladies 2s saw off bottom of the league side Pegasus with a comfortable 3-0 win. The Ladies 3s had a tough tie against Bangor 2s in the first round of the Minor Cup and were unlucky to lose 5-3.
