Ulster just miss out in Under 21 Interpro’s

Over the course of last weekend Banbridge Hockey Club had seven players representatives at the Under 21 Interprovincials in Cork. Five of the squad( Philip Brown, Scott Forbes, Owen Magee, Matthew Bell and Steven Dowds) had been selected for the Ulster under 21 side while two, Peter Brown and Ben Cosgrove played for an Irish Under 18 panel.
Ulster defeated Munster on day one by two goals to nil with Owen Magee scoring one of the goals while the Irish squad drew one all with Leinster. On the Sunday morning Ulster and Ireland played out an entertaining two all draw with Steven Dowds getting both for Ulster while Ben Cosgrove got on the score sheet for the Under 18’s.
The final two matches on Monday saw Ulster needing a draw to win the Interprovincial title. Leinster scored twice mostly against the run of play and it looked as if the competition was all but over but two goals in five second half minutes from Steven Dowds and Owen Magee meant that the title seemed to be heading North. However, Leinster scored a scrappy winner in the final minutes to steal the title. In the final match the Irish Under 18’s defeated Munster five goals to two.
