Bann travel to face Irish Senior Cup holders Cookstown on Saturday
Banbridge Hockey Club President Jonto Walker will be hoping to return from Co-Tyrone with a smile on his face this Saturday as Bann travel to face arch rivals Cookstown in the Irish Senior Cup. The top hockey action continues this weekend around the country as the Mens and ESB Electric Ireland Irish Senior Cup takes centre stage once again for round 2.
Sixteen teams (in each men & women) will take to the field in order to progress to the quarter finals which are taking place in 2012. On the mens side last years winners Cookstown have the advantage of home territory as they take on Ulster rivals Banbridge. Meanwhile the 2010 runners up Monkstown will have a tight battle on their hands as they take on Pembroke Wanderers who are no strangers to lifting this cup (2008; 2009). Two northern teams are going to have to make the long trip to Munster as Garvey head towards Cork C of I having already disposed of Munstes UCC with a convincing 4-0 victory in round 1; while Annadale take on Cork Harlequins at 13.30.
The draw for round 3 of the Irish Senior Cup will be made in the Railway Union club house after the match this Saturday at approximately 5pm.
