Beacons army see the light at Mossley

Another hard fought win keeps Bann seconds at the top of Junior League One after a 2-1 win over a spirited Mossley at The Glade in Newtownabbey. After going a goal down early on Bann responded with a patient display to pick up an important three points. Full report to follow…

This week’s encounter saw Bann twos travel to the Glade for a prime time start against a dangerous Mossley side. The game got underway with both teams creating early chances at either end. However, neither side could convert these opportunities until midway through the first half when an aerial ball broke through Bann’s backline leaving the home side’s Joel Cathcart to expertly finish and put Mossley on the scoresheet. This lead was short-lived through a well worked goal, beginning with some intricate passing down the right hand side between Ben Cosgrove and Scott McCandlass, resulting in a clinical finish from Scott Caruth to even things up before half time. The start of the second half saw Bann retaining most of the possession allowing them to dictate the play, spearheaded by the ever reliable Douglas Anderson and Junior Burns. The three points were definitely insight as chance after chance flew by including several short corners dealt expertly with by Mossley keeper Ben McMillan. It took Bann twenty-five minutes to find the breakthrough they needed with a loose ball picked up inside the circle and slotted neatly into the goal by on form Rory Woods. A great overall performance coupled with some excellent work rate allowed Bann to come away with all three points. This should instill great confidence going into next week’s fixture against North Down and indeed for the rest of the season.
