Bann open Cup defence at Kilkeel

Banbridge Hockey Club begin one of their most action packed seasons in years with a tricky Kirk Cup tie away to Kilkeel (Saturday 2.30pm). As defending Kirk Cup winners they will face a stern opposition against a team who have always caused problems for the locals at the seaside. Bann enter the season without key player Colin Dowds who is travelling the world as well as experienced forward Simon Magowan who is suffering from a serious knee injury. On the plus side they have no major injury worries and begin their build up to the EHL in Belgium with a strong squad to chose from.
